Free In-school photography workshops taught by professionals
As a part of our outreach efforts, The Aperture Project will offer a limited number of free photography workshops to schools in areas in which we operate. These workshops will supplement their existing art program and will be focused on helping young people build confidence to explore their worlds using photography. Allowing them to creatively express themselves without the fear attached to what, for many parents and teachers, can be quite a technical subject.
Children have a unique visual awareness and a natural excitement about using photography. They are not held back by adult constraints while capturing the world around them. Consequently, we use very simple techniques to show them what they are capable of doing in the camera rather than with software. After all, it is much more fun getting out and taking pictures than it is sitting inside on a computer.
